ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIPS

Edward A. Merdes (1926-1991) was an Alaskan legal pioneer.

Married to Norma J. [Wardle] Merdes in 1948, Ed was a Cornell Law School graduate, licensed to practice law in Alaska in 1952. He was a loving husband, devoted father and brilliant Fairbanks trial attorney. Like his sons Mark and Ward, Ed helped broken and injured people. He fought government, insurance companies and large corporations, on behalf of Alaskans.
