Maintenance Headlights
As daylight hours get shorter, it is a good idea to maintenance headlights in preparation for winter months. Dark roads, wildlife and long winter nights make clean, working headlights essential for driving on Alaskan roads.
Clean Lenses
Many lenses on cars have a UV protective film that protects the headlights from sun rays. If your headlights look foggy or yellow, the protective film may be damaged and need to be cleaned or replaced. Kits are available to clean headlight lenses yourself. Alternatively, some places offer the cleaning service. Clean lenses allow drivers to see more clearly.
Replace Bulbs
Replace broken, burnt out, or dim bulbs. It is best to replace bulbs in pairs to ensure even vision since new bulbs may look different than old bulbs. Invest in better headlights when possible, high performance bulbs such as HID or LED make a big difference in visibility. Also check other bulbs, including blinker and brake lights when replacing headlight bulbs.
Adjust Headlights
Headlight adjustment is a common issue that many drivers have, often without knowing. Headlights that are too high do not properly illuminate the road while headlights that are too low do not help see distance. Headlight adjustment is an easy fix for drivers to see better on the road.
Maintenance is important for your vehicle and often, lights get overlooked in regular maintenance schedules. Ensure your and others safety by performing headlight maintenance.
