National Physical Therapy Month
October is National Physical Therapy Month created by the American Physical Therapy Association to celebrate Physical Therapists and their impact on patients. Many people go to physical therapy following a car accident to help recover from injuries.
Different kinds of physical therapy helps individuals differently. Some common types of treatment include: manual therapy, exercises, and posture training.
Manual Therapy
Manual therapy manipulates parts of the body to address pain concerns. This treatment includes massage, muscle manipulation, and joint manipulation. Manually manipulating muscles and joints are important parts of physical therapy. Therapists will also provide deep tissue massages to patients, focusing on manipulating the musculoskeletal system.
Exercises
Physical therapists assign exercises to patients to work on different parts of the body. Sometimes patients choose to skip physical therapy thinking they can use other exercises instead. Each injury and person are different, so it is important to attend physical therapy to ensure you learn the best treatment options for your situation.
Posture Training
Posture training is an important part of therapy, primarily helping with long-term results. This training primarily helps resolve pain in the neck, shoulders and back. Posture training allows people to adjust daily routines to build muscle.
Physical training can be daunting following a major injury, often taking weeks to complete. It is important to the healing process, especially early in the recovery process. If you receive a referral for physical therapy, take it serious and attend to get better.
