HISTORY OF ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS’ DAY
The world lacked people with office skills after World War II. Additionally, there were fewer babies born and business was booming. In 1942, the National Secretaries Association began to develop office personnel. They created an appreciation day the same year.
The first “National Secretaries Week,” was June 1 through June 7, 1942. In 1955, the Week moved to the last full week in April. The year 1981 saw Professional Secretaries Week. By 2000 Administrative Professionals Week honored the broad responsibilities and job titles of administrative staff . The day has undergone many changes. Still, the goal to celebrate and recognize hard work remains.
