Alaska summers have much to offer including lots of mosquitos, the midnight sun, and construction season. It’s incredibly important to be aware of potential seasonal driving hazards during the summer months. Be extremely careful when approaching and driving through areas with road work.
Pay Attention In Construction Zones
Paying attention and being cautious are crucial to driving safely in construction zones. Be aware of your surroundings when navigating through areas undergoing construction or road work. Watch for hazards such as workers and work vehicles moving around the worksite. Give extra space between vehicles, and people, in construction areas. Also look out for tools and materials that could become hazardous.
Don’t Drive Distracted
Construction site injuries are often preventable. Stay focused and alert when driving through a work zone. Turning down the radio volume and checking your mirrors and blind spots can help you be more aware.
Slow Down For Road Work
Many places along Alaskan roadways will be under construction during the summer months. Along with general road maintenance, many areas will be redesigned in order to better accommodate traffic needs. Slow down and stay attentive when navigating through a roadway that is undergoing changes to traffic flow. Not only is it safer for everyone in the area, but traffic fines increase in work zones as well.
