Yet again we are heading into a holiday season during an international pandemic. Luckily this year we have a bit more experience on how to celebrate Halloween safely. Just remember to take it outside, or mask up indoors so we may have a safe, spooky and sweet Halloween 2021.
Take It Outside
During an appearance on CNN‘s State of the Union, Dr. Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) said: “This is a time that children love. It’s a very important part of the year for children.” Dr. Fauci, along with Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), urges everyone who can get vaccinated do so. The CDC expert says that though she is not ready to jump into large indoor parties, small groups outside seem relatively safe. Three different vaccines are widely available now and over 187 million Americans are fully vaccinated. Vaccinations are approved for children 12 and older, and boosters for those already vaccinated have begun.
Get Creative
There are many ways to celebrate Halloween safely. If a party or community event is your tradition, go for an outdoor setting such as a park, zoo or even a pumpkin patch. If celebrating outside is not possible, continue to mask up indoors, and as always sanitize hands frequently. Maybe even try and work a mask into a costume, perhaps a superhero or a doctor. Halloween can still be full of fantastic family fun at home. Pumpkin decorating, monster movie nights, homemade Halloween treats or even a spooky scavenger hunt! Creating an outdoor scavenger hunt could bring neighbors together in a safe, socially distanced manner. And remember, if trick-or-treating is on the agenda, stay in small groups and wash hands before enjoying any of your spoils.
