Spring is the perfect time for cleaning and repairing belongings after the cold of winter. Checking your vehicle between regular maintenance and repairs is very important. Before taking your vehicle out on the road this spring be sure it is safe. Here are some maintenance tips to remember before driving your car in support of National Car Care Awareness Month.
Check Around The Car
Walk around your car looking for any noticeable damage especially to windows, mirrors, lights, and tires. Also check underneath your vehicle for leaks, damages, or potential hazards. Be aware of rust spots and have them repaired immediately to avoid further erosion.
Worn tires are dangerous and should be replaced before driving on roads. Ensure tire pressure is adequate and that tread is not worn down. Also look for any objects, such as nails or rocks, stuck in tires as they can cause future damage.
Check Under The Hood
Clear any debris from under the hood of your car and look for fluid leaks. Check battery connections for corrosion buildup and cracks along the casing. Make sure the battery is securely in place and held down tightly.
Check wiper fluid, radiator coolant, and engine oil levels and refill as needed. Also check the power steering, brakes, and transmission fluid levels to avoid getting too low or running out completely. Review the conditions of hoses and belts, replacing when cracked, brittle, loose, or frayed.
Stay Safe
Car care is extremely important and contributes to safer roads for the community. Maintain your vehicle to increase safety when traveling on Alaska roads and always be cautious of others.
If you or someone you know has been injured in a car accident due to someone else’s negligence, it’s important to hold those liable accountable. Not only is it the right thing to do, it also creates safer roads for everyone.
