The world is currently suffering from an outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus. Coronavirus is a large family of viruses rarely effecting both humans and animals. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) started in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China in a live animal market.
The virus spreads person-to-person in communities around the world. With known risks changing daily, it is important to check for updates regularly to protect yourself and your family.

Be Knowledgeable
COVID-19 is thought to spread through respiratory droplets. The virus is currently in a “community spread” where some people are infected without knowledge of how or where they became infected. Many government agencies have implemented programs to enforce social distancing in an attempt to avoid further spread of the virus.
The best known way to fight the virus is by using a soap and water mixture or an alcohol-based sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Clean off surfaces in your home, especially regularly used surfaces, like doorknobs. Further, wash your hands regularly to protect yourself and avoid touching your face as much as possible.
People At Higher Risk
Some people are at a higher risk of suffering from the virus. Older adults, people with HIV, people with Asthma, pregnant women, and people with serious medical conditions such as diabetes all have an increased risk. If you are at a higher risk of catching the virus, think twice before going into the community. Seek assistance from friends or family in obtaining necessities, like groceries. Protect yourself by self-quarantining during this difficult time.
People Experiencing Symptoms
Symptoms may occur 2-14 days after being exposed to the virus. If you begin experiencing symptoms such as high fever, cough, or shortness of breath, attempt self-treatment at home before rushing to the hospital. Many cases can be treated at home with over-the-counter medications and self-quarantine. Further, if you do suffer the virus, stay home to reduce the risk of others catching the virus in the community.
If you must visit the hospital, please be mindful of others. Protect hospital workers and patients with weakened immune systems by wearing a mask if you have COVID-19 symptoms.
This world-wide virus requires everyone’s patience and cooperation. Please be smart and protect yourself. Respect individual boundaries and stay home if you experience symptoms.
