National Truck Driver Appreciation Week
September 13-19 is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. Truck drivers face many challenges on the road. They must pay attention to their surroundings and stay alert in case others create an unsafe environment. One major issue that truck drivers face is being cut off by other vehicles.
Cutting Off A Semi Truck Is Dangerous
Drivers will speed up to go around a semi truck and then cut off the semi truck, not leaving a safe distance between the semi and their vehicle. Semi trucks need more time to slow down or stop. When another vehicle cuts them off, their time to stop in an emergency is greatly reduced. Additionally, truck drivers may be facing other challenges in addition to being cut off, such as vehicles tailgating their truck.
Often drivers do not understand how dangerous it is to cut off a semi truck. If a semi truck is slowing down below the speed limit, they may know of upcoming construction, traffic, or an accident. Drivers that speed around a slowing down semi truck risk running into dangers they are not aware of on the road.
Put bluntly, it is dangerous to cut off a semi truck and can cause serious accidents. Keep Alaskan roads safe and practice patience when sharing the road with semi trucks.
