It’s important to maintain rules and guidelines to keep children safe when using computers and other devices to access the internet. Frequently review rules and safety tips with your children to help them stay aware of potential risks. Also, review the sites and content your children access on a regular basis. Being aware of what your child can see, and has seen, will help you keep them safe.
Keep Children Safe From Hazardous Content
Keeping children safe on the internet has become more complex in recent years. Protect children from inappropriate or dangerous content by using parental controls. Many video and gaming applications have optional privacy and security settings that block certain content.
The impact of social media on children can negatively affect their confidence and self image. Cyber bullying has become a growing concern for parents. Be sure your child isn’t exposed to negative or potentially harmful content, or people, on social media.
Many games have a user account which includes a profile picture. Instead of using an actual picture, choose a character image or create an avatar. Disable the ability to use voice chat or chat rooms in games to avoid accidental contact with potential predators.
With more schools participating in virtual learning this year, it’s important to keep up with your child’s device settings. Whether using a computer, a tablet, or a phone, be sure your child is unable to access applications or websites that could pose a risk.
