Medical Payments coverage is additional protection on auto insurance that protects drivers and passengers in need of medical treatment. Medical Payments coverage is not a requirement in Alaska but is good to add to your policy in case of a crash.
Coverage
Medical Payments (MedPay) covers medical bills and health insurance copays or deductibles for treatment related to injuries from a crash. MedPay applies to both drivers and passengers. MedPay also covers the insured if they suffer injuries as a pedestrian, even if they are not near their vehicle. Finally, MedPay covers funeral costs in fatal crashes.
Limits
Choosing limits is unique to each individual and should be based on your financial situation and health insurance coverage. Consider higher MedPay limits if you do not have health insurance or if you frequently have passengers in your vehicle.
If you suffer injuries while riding in someone else’s vehicle, ask that person if they have MedPay coverage that may help you get the treatment you need.
