Each year in November, the Movember Foundation works to raise awareness for men’s health through fundraising campaigns. Movember is about men’s health with the goal of lessening the number of premature male deaths annually.
On average, men die six years earlier than women, often by preventable causes.
Movember raises awareness and funding by giving information to the public, showing men how to create positive behaviors, and advocating for men. The three largest issues men face are prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental heath – including suicide.
How can you get involved?
The most well known campaign is men growing a moustache during the month of November to raise awareness. The “No Shave November” campaign officially started in 2004 although the idea originated in 1999 by two men in Melbourne, Australia. Another way of getting involved is to challenge yourself to walk or run 60 miles during the month to raise awareness for the 60 men that die from suicide every hour across the world. Walking is part of the campaign with participants fundraising for the cause. Finally, you can host a mo-ment, which an event designed to raise awareness about the issues surrounding men’s health.
What has Movember done for men’s health?
The Movember Foundation raised $40,000 in it’s first year to give back to men’s health and awareness. The campaign is now recognized in 20 different countries and raised $74.2 million in 2018. The Movember Foundation keeps costs down to provide as much money to research and new ideas as possible.
Men’s health is an important topic of discussion and providing your support can help men across the world.
