National Do Something Good For Your Neighbor Day
Monday, May 16th is National Do Something Good For Your Neighbor Day. The day is intended to encourage people and organizations to be neighborly. There are numerous things one can do to be neighborly. Your outreach can be wide or close, but it is a small way to share of yourself and spread kindness.
On Your Street
Some easy options for the day include: giving a baked dish or dessert, cleaning up trash in the area or leaving flowers on doorsteps. One could also offer with small tasks like yard work or taking trash bins to and from the street. Another option? Stopping and saying hello and having a short conversation with a neighbor.
In Your Town
In an effort to encourage these behaviors, you can incorporate the above tasks into a regular routine of assistance. To further give of yourself, one can volunteer in your local area. Often, shelters, food banks and community events need people to help. You can also visit veterans or nursing homes in your free time. Furthermore, on September 28th it is National Good Neighbor Day. You can plan and perhaps include your neighbors in a way to give back to the wider community.
