National Nutrition Month is an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. National Nutrition Month invites everyone to learn about good food choices and healthy eating and physical activity habits.
Ideas to Get Involved
National Nutrition Month participation is more challenging because of COVID-19. Following are some ideas for a socially-distanced approach:
As A Family
First, eat more meals together during National Nutrition Month. Next, commit to trying a new fruit or vegetable each week during National Nutrition Month.
In The Community
Create “safe” community activities. For example, invite a dietitian, restaurant chef, or local culinary school to host a virtual cooking demonstration. Include a brief nutrition presentation. Give attendees with recipes and materials about National Nutrition Month.
Sponsor a question and answer night through a local radio station with a dietician. Callers ask nutrition questions.
In addition, contact the library and coordinate a virtual story time or nutrition program. Give children activity sheets and provide adults Eat Right nutrition tip sheets.
At School
Get children and families involved through school activities. Such as, creating a “nutrition question of the day” contest. Draw the name of a daily prize winner from students who provide the correct answer.
Vote for favorite fruits and vegetables: Show various photos of fruits and vegetables. Ask students to vote for their favorite vegetable and fruit.
Assign a school group project that involves each group researching one of the food groups, allowing each child to explain a food from that food group and what nutrition it provides.

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week
March 1, 2021 also brings National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (NEDA). NEDA’s goal is to shine the spotlight on eating disorders by educating the public, spreading a message of hope, and putting resources into the hands of those in need.
