Annually, National Walking Day occurs on the first Wednesday of April. This year, it occurs on April 6th. Studies have shown that by walking for thirty to sixty minutes per day can drastically improve your health. Walking can help prevent ailments such as type two diabetes, cancer and heart disease. History of National Walking Day
Walking has always been a part of being human. Archaeologist have found that when humans were nomadic tribes, they would walk great distances to stalk prey. Walking is what humans are physically best at. During the Victorian era there was a fad called pedestrianism, where walking became on of the major spectator sports in American and Europe. Individuals would wager bets over whether walkers could make it marathon distances and under what time. This later became known as racewalking, which happens to be an Olympic sport.
How to Observe
Go for a walk! There are many place where you can walk at. For example, at the gym on a track, a trail in a nearby park or in a mall. Join a walking club. Do a racewalk and show off your new, faster walking technique. Or if you prefer, go for a light jog. Either way, get yourself moving.
