Winter is right around the corner. That means it’s time to prepare your vehicle for colder weather. Colder weather conditions can make your car prone to damages. Emergency supplies in your car are critical in case of an accident. Before traveling, check your vehicle and make sure it’s safe to drive.
How to Prepare
There are several ways you can prepare your car for colder weather conditions. To start, have your car serviced for winter conditions. For example, have your battery, brakes and cooling system checked to make sure they are all working properly. Next, you may want to switch to winter tires for a better grip on the road. Always maintain good tire pressure. The tire pressure varies between vehicles so check your owner’s manual to determine the correct tire pressure. Other ways to prepare are:
- Install winter wipers
- Check that the washer fluid is full
- Verify that your defrosters are in working condition
- Have a full tank of gas before traveling
Pack Emergency Supplies
Inside your vehicle you should keep an emergency kit. In the rare chance of being stranded or in an accident, the kit will be there for your benefit. Consider these items for your kit:
• First Aid Kit
• Flares
• Ice scraper
• Flashlights, batteries and jumper cables
• Shovel and a bag of sand
• Extra warm clothing such as a coat, hat, socks, and boots
Preparing for colder weather conditions can be a mundane task, but it is for your benefit. When the temperature starts to decrease, make sure you are prepared.
